Test C: Hard Steering/Lack of Assist (No DTCS Present)
TEST C: HARD STEERING/LACK OF ASSIST (NO DTCS PRESENT)Normal Operation
The variable assist power steering (VAPS) system provides power assist to steering input by multiplying the turning force applied at the steering wheel. When the vehicle is at rest or at a speed of less than 3.2 km/h (2 mph), the VAPS system supplies maximum assist. Between 3.2 km/h (2 mph) and 191 km/h (119 mph), power assist decreases gradually at a calibrated rate to raise steering efforts for increased directional stability and greater road feel. At greater than 191 km/h (119 mph), steering assist is constant.
Possible Causes
^ Circuit 8-CE9 (WH/GN) short
^ Circuit 9-CE9 (BN/GN) short
^ VAPS solenoid
