Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the rear view mirrors to duplicate the concern.2. Inspect the components of the rear view mirror systems to determine if any of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
^ Damaged outside rear view mirrors.
^ Damaged inside rear view mirror.
Electrical
^ Open fuse junction panel fuse:
- Fuse 30 (10 A), 39 (10 A), or 4 (10 A)
^ Power distribution box:
- Maxi Fuse 1 (30 A)
^ Damage to wiring harness.
^ Loose or corroded connections.
^ Damaged outside rear view mirror control.
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle.
^ check that the program card is properly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation Star Tester manual.
5. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
1 CKT914 and CKT915 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to the Communication System Diagnostics in Information Bus to diagnose the network concern.
2 NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver Door Module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With DDM/Cannot Perform DDM Self-Test
3 NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Driver Seat Module (DSM), go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With Driver Seat Module - Unable to Perform Self-Test
4 If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operation state, GO to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With DDM/Cannot Perform DDM Self-Test
5 If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, retrieve and record the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DSM. If the DSM exits the diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to a normal operating state, go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With Driver Seat Module - Unable to Perform Self-Test
6. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related concern, go to the concern Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics.
7. If the DSM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index Driver Seat Module (DSM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics.
8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures to continue the diagnostics.
