SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Driver Side): REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

CAUTION:
Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing Service Precautions.

NOTICE:
w/ Navigation System for HDD:

After the power switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the power switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

2. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR MAT Removal

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:

(1) Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter Programming and Relearning.

NOTICE:
Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto away/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.

HINT
Performing the above operation disables the auto away/return function when the power switch is turned off.

(2) Turn the power switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and upper the steering column assembly.

(b) Turn the power switch off.

(c) Open the front luggage compartment trim cover and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.





CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

4. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

5. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

CAUTION:
When storing the driver side knee airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

(a) Check that the power switch is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Remove the 4 bolts.





(d) Disengage the 7 claws and 2 guides to separate the driver side knee airbag assembly.





(e) Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

(f) Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the driver side knee airbag assembly.

NOTICE:
When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
