Liftgate Window Glass: Service and Repair





Liftgate Window Glass
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal









1 If equipped.

2 Repeat to the other side.

3 Feed the glazing cutting wire around the whole perimeter of the glass.

WARNING: Eye protection must be worn.

4 Remove the liftgate window glass.

5 Carefully remove the sealant from the liftgate mating face to leave a smooth surface.





NOTE:
This step is only required if a new liftgate glass is not installed.





NOTE:
Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

Installation






NOTE:
This step is only required if a new component is installed.




1 Temporarily install the liftgate glass.




2 Use masking tape to establish reference marks as an alignment aid.




3 Remove the liftgate glass.
Apply etch primer to any liftgate bare metal.
Apply glass primer over the previously applied etch primer.
Apply activator over the old sealant on the liftgate and allow to cure.
Apply glass primer to the sealant face on the liftgate window
glass and allow to cure.




Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the liftgate window glass as shown.
Modify the nozzle to achieve a bead section in the shape of a right angle triangle with a base of 8 mm and a vertical height of 12 mm.




4 Install the liftgate window glass and lightly press around to whole perimeter to seat the sealer.
5 Test the sealer for leaks, apply additional sealer if necessary. If water is used, allow sealer to dry before testing. Spray water around the glass and check for leaks. Mark any area that leaks. Dry the glass and sealer then apply additional sealer.




6 Repeat to the other side.





Torque to: 10 Nm

7 If equipped.
