P1320

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Ignition coil & power transistor
The ignition signal from the ECM is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns on and off the ignition coil primary circuit. This on-off operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit.

CONSULT REFERENCE VALUE IN DATA MONITOR MODE
Specification data are reference values.

ECM TERMINALS AND REFERENCE VALUE
Specification data are reference values and are measured between each terminal and (25) (ECCS ground).

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

NOTE:
- If "DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE" has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch "OFF" and wait at least 5 seconds before conducting the next test.
- If both DTC P1320 (0201) and DTC P0340 (0101), P1335 (0407), P0335 (0802) or P1336 (0905) are displayed, perform TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR DTC P0340, P1335, P0335 or P1336 first.

With CONSULT
1) Turn ignition switch "ON".
2) Select "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT.
3) Start engine. (If engine does not run, turn ignition switch to "START" at least 5 seconds.)

OR

With Generic Scan Tools
1) Turn ignition switch "ON".
2) Start engine. (If engine does not run, turn ignition switch to "START" at least 5 seconds.)
3) Select MODE 7 with GST.

OR

Without Scan Tools
1) Turn ignition switch "ON".
2) Start engine. (If engine does not run, turn ignition switch to "START" at least 5 seconds.)
3) Turn ignition switch "OFF", wait at least 5 seconds and then turn "ON".
4) Perform "Diagnostic Test Mode II (Self-diagnostic results)" with ECM.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

WIRING DIAGRAM

COMPONENT INSPECTION
Ignition coil with power transistor
1. Disconnect ignition coil with power transistor harness connector.

2. Check ignition coil with power transistor for resistance between terminals (1) and (2).

Condenser
1. Disconnect condenser harness connector.

2. Check condenser continuity between terminals (1) and (2).

Resistance: Above 1 M Ohms at 25°C (77°F)
