How to Erase Emission-Related Diagnostic Information










EMISSION-RELATED DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION ITEMS

HOW TO ERASE EMISSION-RELATED DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION
The emission-related diagnostic information can be erased by the following methods.

With Consult
Selecting "ERASE" in the "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode with CONSULT

With Generic Scan Tool
Selecting Mode 4 with GST (Generic Scan Tool)

Without Scan Tool
Changing the diagnostic test mode from Diagnostic Test Mode II to Mode I by turning the mode selector on the ECM.
- If the battery terminal is disconnected, the emission-related diagnostic information will be lost within 24 hours.
- When you erase the emission-related diagnostic information, using CONSULT or GST is easier and quicker than switching the mode selector on the ECM.
The following data are cleared from the ECM memory in the mode obtained.
1. Diagnostic trouble codes
2. 1st trip diagnostic trouble codes
3. Freeze frame data
4. 1st trip freeze frame data
5. System readiness test (SRT) codes
6. Test values
7. Others

NOTE: Actual work procedures are explained using a DTC as an example. Be careful so that not only the DTC, but all of the data listed above, are cleared from the ECM memory during work procedures.

How to erase DTC (With CONSULT)

NOTE: If the diagnostic trouble code is not for A/T related items skip steps 2 through 4.

1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" (engine stopped) again.
2. Turn CONSULT "ON" and touch "A/T".
3. Touch "SELF-DIAG RESULTS".
4. Touch "ERASE". (The DTC in the A/T control unit will be erased.) And touch "BACK" twice.
5. Touch "ENGINE".
6. Touch "SELF-DIAG RESULTS".
7. Touch "ERASE". (The DTC in the ECM will be erased.)
- If DTCs are displayed for both ECM and Aft control unit, they need to be erased individually for both ECM and Aft control unit.





How to erase DTC (With GST)

NOTE: If the diagnostic trouble code is not for An related items skip step 2.
1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" (engine stopped) again.
2. Perform "SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (Without CONSULT)" titled "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS", "Self-diagnosis". (The engine warm-up step can be skipped when performing the diagnosis only to erase the DTC.) Self-Diagnostic Mode
3. Select Mode 4 with GST (Generic Scan Tool).

How to erase DTC (No Tools)

NOTE: If the diagnostic trouble code is not for An related items skip step 2.

1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" again.
2. Perform "SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (Without CONSULT)" in titled "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS", "Self-diagnosis". (The engine warm-up step can be skipped when performing the diagnosis only to erase the DTC.) Self-Diagnostic Mode
