DESCRIPTION
The torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the A/T control unit in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and throttle position sensors. Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.














Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) confirmation procedure
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.

With Consult
(1) Start engine.
(2) Select "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode with CONSULT
(3) Drive vehicle in D1 -> D2 -> D3 -> D4 -> D4 lock-up position.

OR

With Generic Scan Tool
(1) Start engine.
(2) Drive vehicle in D1 -> D2 -> D3 -> D4 -> D4 lock-up position.
(3) Select "MODE 7" with GST.

OR

Without Scan Tool
(1) Start engine.
(2) Drive vehicle in D1 -> D2-> D3 -> D4 -> D4 lock-up position.
(3) Perform self-diagnosis.

COMPONENT INSPECTION

Torque converter clutch solenoid valve

Resistance check
- Check resistance between two terminals.

Operation check
- Check solenoid valve by listening for its operating sound while applying battery voltage to the terminal and ground.
