Front Passenger's Airbag Replacement

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/
Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
Removal
1. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Remove the glove box Service and Repair.
3. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator 4P connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.
4. Remove the mounting bolts (B).
5. Remove the blower unit Blower Unit Removal/Installation.
6. Remove the hooks (A) from the front passenger's airbag housing holes (B) of the dashboard upper panel.
NOTE:
- When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
- Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard upper panel.
- Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag.
7. Remove the other hooks (C) from the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard upper panel, then remove the front passenger's airbag from the dashboard upper panel.
Installation
1. Insert the hooks (A) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard upper panel.
NOTE:
- Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard upper panel.
- Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard upper panel is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
- Make sure the hooks are set properly.
2. Insert the other hooks (B) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard upper panel.
3. Reinstall the blower unit Blower Unit Removal/Installation.
4. Install the new mounting bolts (A), then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
5. Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator 4P connector (B) on the dashboard wire harness.
6. Reinstall the glove box Service and Repair.
7. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure.
8. Clear any DTCs with the HDS.
9. After installing the front passenger's airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Removal after a collision where the front passenger's airbag deployed
1. Do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Remove the glove box Service and Repair.
3. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator 4P connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.
4. Remove the mounting bolts (B).
5. Remove the dashboard upper panel (A) and the front passenger's airbag (B) assembly from the dashboard (C) Dashboard Upper Panel Removal / Installation.
Installation after a collision where the front passenger's airbag deployed
1. Insert the hooks (A) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the new dashboard upper panel.
NOTE:
- Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard upper panel.
- Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard upper panel is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
- Make sure the hooks are set properly.
2. Insert the other hooks (B) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard upper panel.
3. Install the dashboard upper panel (A) and the front passenger's airbag (B) assembly to the dashboard (C) Dashboard Upper Panel Removal / Installation.
4. Install the new mounting bolts (A), then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
5. Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator 4P connector (B) on the dashboard wire harness.
6. Reinstall the glove box Service and Repair.
7. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure.
8. Clear any DTCs with the HDS.
9. After installing the front passenger's airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
