SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 83-26
DTC 83-26:
No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (rear outer side)
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
- These SWS DTCs are cleared by turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
1. Clear the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 83-26 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.�
4. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is an SWS DTC also indicated?
YES -
- DTC 26-11: Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
- DTC 26-12: Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) power circuit. Go to step 5.
- DTC 26-13: Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit. Go to step 18.
- DTC 26-14: Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) output circuit. Go to step 32.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.�
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side).
7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
8. Clear the DTC memory.
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
10. Read the DTC.
Is SWS DTC 26-12 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat slide assembly including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.�
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Remove the seat back panel Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
13. Turn over the reinforcing cloth, then release the hooks.
14. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
15. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
16. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 6 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 17.
NO -
Short to ground in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
17. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminals No. 6 and No. 16. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to another wire in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
18. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
19. Swap the connections between the rear outer side front passenger's weight sensor and the front outer side sensor.
20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
21. Clear the DTC memory.
22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
23. Read the DTC.
Is SWS DTC 26-13 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 24.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat slide assembly including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.�
24. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
25. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side), and disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (B) from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side).
26. Remove the seat back panel Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
27. Turn over the reinforcing cloth, then release the hooks.
28. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
29. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
30. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
31. Measure the voltage between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 11 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to power in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
32. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
33. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 3P connector (A) from the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side).
34. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
35. Clear the DTC memory.
36. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
37. Read the DTC.
Is SWS DTC 26-14 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 38.
NO -
Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side); replace the front passenger's seat slide assembly including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.�
38. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
39. Remove the seat back panel Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
40. Turn over the reinforcing cloth, then release the hooks.
41. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
42. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
43. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 11 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 44.
NO -
Short to ground in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
44. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminals No. 11 and No. 16. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
NO -
Short to another wire in the ODS unit harness; replace the ODS unit harness, then clear the DTC.�
