DTC P1890: Problem in CVT Speed Control System

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review General Troubleshooting Information.

1. Check whether the HDS indicates any other DTC simultaneously with DTC P1890.
Are there any other DTCs?
YES - Troubleshoot the indicated DTC, and recheck for DTC P1890 after troubleshooting.
NO - Go to step 2.

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature reaches 176°F (80°C).
4. Check the IMA battery level gauge in the gauge control module (speedo).
Does the battery level gauge indicate 4-19 segments?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Run the engine in the P position at 3,500 rpm until the battery level gauge shows 4-19 segments, then go to step 5.

5. Shift to the D position.
6. Keep pressing the brake pedal for 5 seconds.
7. Accelerate from a stop at over 40% throttle, and run the vehicle on a flat road at speeds about 37 mph (60 km/h) for more than 1 minute. Do not release the accelerator during test-driving.
8. Slow down to a stop, and after stopping keep pressing the brake pedal for 5 seconds.
9. Check whether the HDS indicates any DTCs.
Does the HDS indicate any DTCs?
YES - Troubleshoot the indicated DTC(s).
NO - Return to step 5, and repeat test-driving. If the HDS does not indicate a DTC after the test-drive has been done four times, go to step 10.

10. Park the vehicle on level ground, apply the parking brake, and block all four wheels securely.
11. Firmly press the brake pedal, and shift to the D position.
12. While pressing the brake pedal firmly, also press the accelerator for 6-8 seconds at full throttle, and measure the stall speed rpm.
Does the stall speed exceed 3,500 rpm?
YES - Replace the transmission.
NO - Go to step 13.

13. Test-drive the vehicle on a flat road in the D position. Accelerate with 2.0 V of APP sensor voltage by monitoring the voltage with the HDS, and run the vehicle speeds above 37 mph (60 km/h) for several minutes.
14. Check the engine speed when vehicle speed is 37 mph (60km/h).
Is the engine speed 2,350 - 2,950 rpm?
YES - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If necessary, replace the CVTF, and recheck for DTC P1890.
NO - Replace the transmission.
