DTC 86-01

DTC 86-01: F-CAN Malfunction (BUS-OFF)
1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs.
Is DTC U0073 indicated?
YES - Do the troubleshooting for DTC U0073.
NO - Go to step 2.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then ON (II) again.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 86-01 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor, the ECM/PCM, the gauge control module, and the VSA modulator-control unit. Refer to intermittent failure.
5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
6. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector.
7. Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector A (31P).





8. Check for continuity between VSA modulator-control unit 37P terminal and ECM/PCM connector A (31P) terminal (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit and retest. If DTCs are not indicated, replace the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM and the VSA modulator-control unit.
