DTC 68-21

DTC 68-21: Brake Pedal Position Switch Stuck OFF
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Check the BRK PRESS in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is 0.5 V or less?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Replace the VSA modulator-control unit.
3. Check the BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH in the DATA LIST with the HDS while moving the brake pedal.
Does it indicate ON when the pedal is pushed, and OFF when pedal is released?
YES - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the brake pedal position switch, the ECM/PCM, and the VSA modulator-control unit. Refer to intermittent failure.
NO - Go to step 4.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Disconnect the brake pedal position switch 4P connector.





6. Check for voltage between body ground and the brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 1.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 7.
NO - Go to step 8.
7. Test the brake pedal position switch.
Is the switch OK?
YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM and the brake pedal position switch.
NO - Replace the brake pedal position switch and retest.
Is the fuse OK?
8. Check fuse No. 13 (15A) in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
YES - Repair open in the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box fuse No. 13 (15A) and the brake pedal position switch.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Reconnect the brake pedal position switch 4P connector, and disconnect ECM/PCM connector A.
10. Replace the blown fuse.
11. Press the brake pedal.
Does fuse No. 13 blow again?
YES - Repair short to body ground on the wire between the under-hood fuse/relay box fuse No. 13A (15A) and the ECM/PCM.
NO - Replace the ECM/PCM.
