DTC P0706: Open in Transmission Range Switch Circuit2003 AT-PZEV (SULEV) and 2004-2005 AT-PZEV Models
NOTE:
^ Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.
^ This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Shift to the D position.
3. Check the FORWARD SWITCH input with the HDS.
Is the FORWARD SWITCH ON?
YES- Go to step 4.
NO- Go to step 6.
4. Shift to the S position.
5. Check the FORWARD SWITCH input with the HDS.
Is the FORWARD SWITCH ON?
YES- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the transmission range switch and TCM.
NO- Go to step 6.
6. Check the transmission range switch.
Is the switch OK?
YES- Go to step 7.
NO- Replace the transmission range switch, then go to step 14.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
8. Shift to the D or S position.
9. Measure the voltage between TCM connector terminals A14 and A23 or A24.
Is there voltage?
YES- Repair open in the wire between TCM connector terminal A14 and the transmission range switch, or between transmission range switch connector terminal No. 7 and ground (G101).
NO- Go to step 10.
10. Shift to the D position.
11. Measure the voltage between TCM connector. terminals A15 and A23 or A24.
Is there voltage?
YES- Repair open in the wire between TCM connector terminal A15 and the transmission range switch.
NO- Go to step 12.
12. Shift to the S position.
13. Measure the voltage between TCM connector terminals A16 and A23 or A24.
Is there voltage?
YES- Repair open in the wire between TCM connector terminal A16 and the transmission range switch.
NO- Update the TCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good TCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good TCM, replace the original TCM.
14. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
15. Test-drive the vehicle in the D or S position until the vehicle speed reaches 31 mph (50 km/h), and stop the wheels.
16. Check that DTC P0706 recurs.
Is DTC P0706 indicated?
YES- Return to step 1 and recheck.
NO- The problem has been corrected.
