DTC P1563 (5): Motor Commutation Sensor C Circuit Low Input
1. Reset the MCM.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Start the engine.
Is DTC P1563 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the motor commutation sensor C and the MCM.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Turn the battery module switch OFF.
6. Remove the IPU lid.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8. Use a wrench to slowly rotate the crankshaft as you measure voltage between MCM connector terminals B11 and B20.
Does the measured voltage alternate between about 5 V and 0.6 V?
YES - Update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
NO - Go to step 9.

9. Measure voltage between MCM connector terminals B11 and B21.
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
10. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
11. Disconnect the MCM connector B (24P).

12. Check for continuity between body ground and MCM connector terminal B20.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
13. Disconnect the motor commutation sensor 10P connector.

14. Check for continuity between body ground and MCM connector terminal B20.
Is there continuity ?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the motor commutation sensor and the MCM (B20).
NO - Go to step 15.
15. Remove the manual transmission and the clutch, or CVT.
16. Inspect the drive plate for bend, and the motor commutation sensor for connection.
Is the drive plate, or sensor OK?
YES - Replace the motor commutation sensor.
NO -
^ Replace the drive plate.
^ Repair connection motor commutation sensor.
