- J 3455 Holding Fixture
- J 35549 Second Coast Brake Piston Compressor
- J 6125-B Slide Hammer Set
- J 35495 Oil Pump Puller Adapters
1. For transaxle overhaul, mount transaxle to J 345 holding fixture.
2. Oil cooler pipes.
3. Manual shift lever and shaft.
4. Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
5. Oil filler gage and tube.
6. Throttle cable retaining plate.
7. Governor body.
A. Oil cooler pipes.
B. Manual shift lever and shaft.
C. Governor body, thrust washer.
D. Governor body.
E. Plate washer and governor body adapter.
8. Pan and gasket.
Inspect
- Particles in pan.
- Remove the magnet and use it to collect any steel chips. Look carefully at the chips and particles in the pan and on the magnet to anticipate what type of wear you will find in the transaxle.
A. Steel (magnetic)--bearing, gear, and clutch plate wear.
B. Brass (non-magnetic)--bushing wear.
9. Oil tube bracket and oil strainer.
10. Four oil tubes.
11. Manual detent spring.
12. Manual valve and manual valve body.
13. Valve body by:
- Disconnect the throttle cable from the cam and remove the valve body.
14. Throttle cable from case.
15. Governor apply gasket.
16. Governor oil strainer (filter screen).
17. Accumulator piston and springs.
A. Loosen the five bolts slowly until the spring tension is released.
B. Remove the cover and the gasket.
C. Remove the piston and spring. It may be necessary to use low pressure compressed air to pop out piston. Force air into the hole shown and remove the piston and spring.
18. Install J 35549 second coast brake piston compressor and remove snap ring.
19. Seven bolts holding oil pump to transaxle case. Remove pump using J 6125-B slide hammer set and the J 35495 oil pump puller adapters.
Important
- Push the second brake band into the case, being careful not to catch it on the direct clutch drum.
20. Direct clutch.
21. Thrust washer.
22. Forward clutch drum.
23. Second coast brake band.
- Push the pin with a small screwdriver and remove it from the bolt hole of the oil pump mounting.

30. Second brake drum gasket.
31. Plates, disks. and flange.
32. Blow out piston with compressed air.
Important
- Hold the piston so it is not slanted and then blow with the gun slightly away from the oil hole.
33. Snap ring holding No. 2 one-way clutch outer race to case.
34. No. 2 one-way clutch and rear planetary gear. Watch for thrust washer of planetary carrier on both sides.
35. Rear planetary ring gear and bearing.
36. Snap ring holding flange to case.
37. Flanges, plates, and discs.
