Torque Converter
If the transmission is contaminated, the torque converter and transmission cooler should be thoroughly flushed.Inspect

1. Insert a turning tool in the inner race of the one-way clutch.
2. Install the stopper so that it fits in the notch of the converter hub and other piece of the one-way clutch.
3. With the torque converter positioned upward, the one-way clutch should lock when turned counterclockwise and should rotate freely and smoothly clockwise. Less than 2.5 N.m (22 lb. in.) of torque should be required to rotate the one-way clutch. If necessary, clean the converter and retest the clutch. Replace the converter if the one-way clutch still fails the test.
4. Measure torque converter sleeve runout. Temporarily mount the torque converter to the drive plate. Set up a dial indicator. Torque to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.). If runout exceeds 0.30 mm (0.0118-inch), try to correct it by reorienting the installation of the converter. If excessive runout cannot be corrected, replace the torque converter.
Important
- Mark the position of the converter to ensure correct installation.
5. Remove the torque converter from the drive plate.
6. Measure drive plate runout and Inspect ring gear. Set up a dial indicator and measure the drive plate runout If runout exceeds 0.20 mm (0.0079-inch) or if the ring gear is damaged, replace the drive plate/ If installing a new drive plate, note the orientation of the spacers and tighten the bolts.
Tighten
- Drive plate bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb. ft.).
