Oil Pump
DISASSEMBLE1. Bearing race from stator shaft.
2. O-ring from pump body.
3. Two oil seal rings from back of stator shaft.
4. Thrust washer of clutch drum from stator shaft.
5. Stator shaft.
- Remove the 11 bolts and the stator shaft. Identify the top and bottom. Keep gears in assembly order.
Inspect
- Tool Required:
- J 9617 Oil Pump Seal Installer
- Check body clearance of driven gear. Push the driven gear to one side of the body. Using a feeler gage, measure the clearance. If the clearance exceeds 0.3 mm (0.012-inch), replace the drive gear, or pump body.
- Check tip clearance of both gears. Measure between the gear teeth and the crescent-shaped part of the pump body. If the clearance exceeds 0.3 mm (0.012-inch), replace the drive gear, driven gear, or pump body.
- Check side clearance of both gears. Using a steel straightedge and a feeler gage, measure the side clearance of both gears. If the clearance exceeds 0.1 mm (0.0004-inch), replace the drive gear, driven gear, or pump body.
- Front oil seal. Check for wear, damage, or cracks.
- Replace front oil seal. Pry off the oil seal with a screwdriver. Using J 9617 oil pump seal installer and a hammer, install a new oil seal. The seal end should be flush with the outer edge of the pump body.
ASSEMBLE
1. Driven gear and drive gear making sure the top of the gears are facing upward.
2. Stator shaft onto pump body. Align the stator shaft with each bolt hole.
Tighten
- Stator shaft bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).
3. Coat the thrust washer with petroleum jelly. Align the tab of the washer with the hollow of the pump body and install the thrust washer.
4. Two oil seal rings on oil pump. Care should be taken not to spread the ring ends too far.
5. Check pump drive gear rotation. Turn the drive gear with 2 screwdrivers and make sure that it rotates smoothly.
6. New O-ring.
7. Race onto stator shaft.
