Lower Valve Body

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Lower valve body plate and gaskets.
2. Cooler by-pass valve and spring.
3. Damping check valve and spring.
4. Three check balls.
5. Primary regulator valve. Retainer, sleeve, plunger, spring, adjusting rings, and valve.
6. Note the number of adjusting rings.
7. Secondary regulator valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then the plug, valve and spring.
8. 1-2 shift valve. Remove the retainer with a magnetic finger, then the plug.
9. 1-2 shift lower valve, upper valve, and spring.
10. Low coast shift valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then the plug and valve.
11. Lock-up control valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then remove the plug, valve, and spring.
12. Detent regulator valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then remove the plug, detent regulator valve and spring.
13. 2-3 shift valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then remove the plug, valve and spring.
14. Intermediate shift valve. Retainer with a magnetic finger, then remove the plug and valve.
15. Lock-up signal valve. Pin with a magnetic finger, then remove plug, valve and spring.
16. 3-4 coast shift plug.
17. 3-4 shift plug.

Inspect
- Inspect valve springs.





- Check for damage, squareness, rust and distorted coils. Measure the free length and replace any spring if less than that shown.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Primary regulator valve.
A. Adjusting rings and spring seat.

Important
- Install the same number of adjusting rings as removed.

B. Valve into the bore in the horizontal position.
- Stand the valve body upward and push the valve into the bore until its tip is flush with the bore.
C. Valve spring.
- Insert the plunger with the short end first. Make sure that it is fully inserted. The plunger should be recessed inside the sleeve.
D. Sleeve with the plunger.
- Make sure that the regulator valve fits flush with the bore.
E. Retainer.

2. Secondary regulator valve.
- Spring, valve, plug, and retainer.
3. 1-2 shift valve.
A. Spring and upper valve.
B. Lower valve-flat end first-plug, and retainer.

4. Low coast shift valve-small end first-plug and retainer.
5. Lock-up control valve.
A. Valve.
- Coat the retainer with petroleum jelly.
B. Plug flat end first and install the retainer.

6. Detent Regulator Valve.
A. Spring and detent regulator valve, small end first
B. Plug and retainer
7. Intermediate shift valve.
A. Valve, small end first.
- Coat the retainer with petroleum jelly
B. Plug flat end first and install the retainer
8. 2-3 shift valve with spring, plug, and retainer.
9. Lock-up signal valve with spring, plug, and pin.
10. 3-4 coast shift plug.
11. 3-4 shift plug.
12. Spring and cooler by-pass valve.
13. Spring and dampening check valve.
14. Check balls.
