Clutch Pressure Plate Check
NOTE: The following checks can be performed on 3.7L and 5.0L (4V) clutch pressure plates only. The 5.4L application is an assembly of discs and plates that are only serviced as an assembly.
1. Check the clutch pressure plate surface for the following conditions. Install a new clutch pressure plate as necessary.
- Cracking, scoring or other surface marks
- Use an emery cloth to remove minor imperfections in the clutch pressure plate surface.
- Discoloration
2. Check the diaphragm spring fingers for the following conditions. Install a new clutch pressure plate as necessary.
- Scoring, bent or broken segments
- Spring ends that are higher or lower than the rest
- Discoloration
3. Measure the flatness of the clutch pressure plate surface with a straightedge and a feeler gauge.
4. Measure the wear of the diaphragm spring fingers.
