Normal Operation
The generic electronic module (GEM) monitors the liftgate release switch circuit 31S-AA30 (BK/YE) for a ground signal when the switch completes the circuit to ground. When the GEM receives a release signal, it supplies voltage to the liftgate latch on circuit 32-AA27 (WH/GN). The liftgate latch has a motor that is grounded on circuit 31-GL20 (BK) that releases the liftgate latch. The GEM also releases the liftgate latch by receiving a release signal from a remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter.

Possible Causes
- Circuit 15S-AA17 (GN/WH) open
- Circuit 31-AA30 (BK) open
- Circuit 31-GL20 (BK) open or short to voltage
- Circuit 31S-AA30 (BK/YE) open
- Circuit 32-AA27 (WH/GN) open or short to ground
- Liftgate/luggage compartment lid latch
- Liftgate/luggage compartment lid release switch
