Fuel Tank Draining
WARNING: DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENT. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.NOTE: It will be necessary to adapt fuel line connector, part number XW4Z-9B376-AA, to the Fuel Storage Tanker hose to accomplish this draining procedure.
1. Lower the windows and remove the hard top or lower the convertible top.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Relieve the fuel pressure.
4. Remove the rear trim panel.
1 Pull out on the inboard edge to release the retainers and remove the speaker grille.
2 Pull out to release the retaining clips and remove the rear trim panel.
NOTE: Right side shown, left side similar.
5. Remove the rear carpeting and any insulation padding covering the fuel module access cover.
6. Remove the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) and jet pump module access covers.
7. Remove the black connector elbow on the fuel tank crossover lines from the flange (jet pump module, LH side).
CAUTION: To disconnect the fuel line connector from the outlet fitting on the module, carefully press down on the fuel line connector while pressing the release tabs. Pull straight up to remove. Failure to follow this procedure could result in damage to the fitting or fuel line.
NOTE: Both sides of the tank must be drained individually to make sure all possible fuel is removed from the tank.
8. Press the release tabs on the module fitting, turn the fuel line slightly, pull straight up to remove the black fuel line connector elbow.
9. Attach the fuel line draining connector to the fuel storage tanker hose and the outlet fitting on the jet pump module flange. Siphon the fuel until the tank side is empty.
10. Remove the black connector elbow from the fuel tank crossover line from the fuel delivery module (RH) flange.
11. Attach the fuel line draining connector to the fuel storage tanker hose and to the delivery module (RH) flange to drain the fuel.
12. Remove the fuel delivery module and siphon any remaining fuel out of the tank.
