H: Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor

Pinpoint Test H: Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor

H1 Monitor The TSS PID

- Key OFF.
- Connect New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester.
- Access the TSS PID.
- Key ON, engine OFF. Monitor the TSS PID.
- Start the engine and bring to normal operating temperature.
- Monitor the TSS PID.
Does the TSS PID read 0 RPM with the key ON engine OFF, and read 650+ /-50 RPM with the engine idling?
Yes
The fault is intermittent. REFER to Computers and Control/System Diagnosis
No
Go to H2.

H2 Measure The Resistance of TSS Sensor
- Key OFF.
- Disconnect the turbine speed (TSS) sensor harness connector.
- Measure the resistance across the terminals of the TSS sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance between 253-604 ohms?
Yes
Go to H3.
No
REPLACE the TSS.
RESTORE vehicle.
RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test.

H3 Check Signal Wires For Opens
- Key OFF.
- Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM).
- Connect Rotunda 104-Pin Breakout Box 014-00950 or equivalent and Breakout Box Adapter T96P-12A650-C, leave PCM disconnected.
- TSS sensor harness disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between Test Pin 1 (TSS+) and TSS(+ ) circuit at the TSS sensor harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between Test Pin 27 (TSS-) and TSS (-) circuit at the TSS sensor harness connector.
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
Go to H4.
No
REPAIR the TSS circuit.
RESTORE vehicle.
RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test.

H4 Check Signal Wires For Shorts
- Key OFF.
- Breakout Box installed, PCM disconnected.
- Measure the resistance between Test Pin 1 (TSS+) and ground at the Breakout Box.
- Measure the resistance between Test Pin 27 (TSS-) and ground at the Breakout Box.
- Measure the resistance between Test Pin 1 (TSS+) and Test Pin 27 (TSS-) at the Breakout Box.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes

No
REPAIR the TSS circuit.
RESTORE vehicle.
RERUN Diagnostic Quick Test.
