BC - Illuminated Entry System Inoperative
Pinpoint Test BC: Illuminated Entry System InoperativeNOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide a procedure to perform the following pinpoint test without the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 007-00500 or equivalent.
BC1 - Preliminary Checks
- Check fuses 8 (15A0 and circuit breaker 14 (20A) for continuity.
- Check connections for clean, tight fit.
- Check for loose or damaged wires.
- Make sure that all door handles are seated in the not lifted position.
Do components and wiring check OK?
YES GO to BC2.
NO SERVICE or REPLACE as required. GO to BC2.
BC2 - Check Courtesy Lamp Condition
- Connect NGS tester or equivalent to data link connector (DLC) and access active command modes for lighting control module.
- Command courtesy lamp PID INTR_LT_ON.
Do courtesy lamps stay off?
YES GO to Pinpoint Test AB. AB - Courtesy Lamps Inoperative
NO COMMAND PID INTR_LT OFF. GO to BC3.
BC3 - Check Driver Door Handle Switch
- Lift the driver door handle.
Do courtesy lamps turn on?
YES GO to BC4.
NO GO to BC5.
BC4 - Check Passenger Door Handle Switch - Driver Door Operating Properly
- Lift the passenger door handle.
Do courtesy lamps turn on?
YES On vehicles with keyless entry option, GO to BC6. OTHER vehicles, system is operating normally.
NO SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis to passenger door handle switch. RETEST system.
BC5 - Check Passenger Door Handle Switch - Driver Door Not Operating Properly
- Lift the passenger handle.
Do courtesy lamps turn on?
YES SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis to drivers door handle switch. RETEST system.
NO GO to BC18.
BC6 - Check Keyless Entry Keypad
- Press each of the five keyless entry keypad switches.
- If illuminated entry turns on, lock vehicle by pressing 7/8 and 9/0 switch concurrently to turn off courtesy lamps before testing next switch.
Do all switches turn on lamps?
YES SYSTEM operating normally.
NO GO to BC7.
BC7 - Check Keyless Entry Switch 1/2 Inoperative
- Repeat step BC6.
Does switch 1/2 turn on lamps?
YES GO to BC8.
NO CHECK circuit 78 (LB/Y) for open. If circuit is good, REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC8 - Check Keyless Entry Switch 3/4 Inoperative
- Repeat step BC6.
Does switch 3/4 turn on lamps?
YES GO to BC9.
NO CHECK circuit 79 (LG/R) for open. If circuit is good, REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC9 - Check Keyless Entry Switch 5/6 Inoperative
- Repeat step BC6.
Does switch 5/6 turn on lamps?
YES GO to BC10.
NO CHECK circuit 121 (Y/BK) for open. If circuit is good, REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC10 - Check Keyless Entry Switch 7/8 Inoperative
- Repeat step BC6.
Does switch 7/8 turn on lamps?
YES GO to BC11.
NO CHECK circuit 122 (Y/BK) for open. If circuit is good, REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC11 - Check Keyless Entry Switch 9/0 Inoperative
- Repeat step BC6.
Does switch 9/0 turn on lamps?
YES GO to BC12.
NO CHECK circuit 123 (R) for open. If circuit is good, REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC12 - Check Keyless Entry Remote Transmitter
- Press Unlock button on keyless entry remote transmitter.
Does illuminated entry turn on courtesy lamps?
YES GO to BC15.
NO GO to BC13.
BC13 - Check Keyless Entry Remote Transmitter, Doors Do Not Unlock
- Repeat step BC12.
Do doors unlock?
YES GO to BC14.
NO REFER to Keyless Entry. Keyless Entry
BC14 - Check Keyless Entry Remote Transmitter, Lamps Do Not Turn On
- Repeat step BC12.
Do doors unlock, but lamps do not turn on?
YES GO to BC17.
NO GO to BC15.
BC15 - Check Power To Keyless Entry Switch
- Using a voltmeter, check for voltage on pin 5 circuit 296 (W/P) Town Car or circuit 54 (LG/Y) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis into keyless entry keypad.
Does voltage read B+?
YES GO to BC16.
NO SERVICE circuit 296 (W/P) Town Car or circuit 54 (LG/Y) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis for open circuit. RETEST system.
BC16 - Check Keyless Entry Keypad Using Factory Code
- Enter factory code on keyless entry keypad.
Do doors unlock?
YES REPLACE driver door module. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE keyless entry keypad. RETEST system.
BC17 - Check For Continuity
- Disconnect connector C2 from driver door module.
- Disconnect connector C1 from lighting control module.
- Test for continuity of driver door module connector C2-7 circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis to lighting control module connector C1-12.
Is there continuity?
YES REPLACE driver door module. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis. RETEST system.
BC18 - Check Door Handle Switch Circuit
- Using the NGS tester or equivalent, enter active command modes for driver door module.
- Read door handle switch PID FDRHNDL.
Does tester indicate door handle switch closed?
YES SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis for short to ground. CHECK for stuck switch or sticking door handles on both driver and passenger front doors. RETEST system.
NO GO to BC19.
BC19 - Check Door Handle Switch Circuit
- Lift driver door handle, then passenger front door handle.
- Read door handle switch PID FDRHNDL after lifting each door handle.
Does PID indicate door handle switch closed?
YES GO to BC20.
NO SERVICE circuit 930 (P/LG) Town Car or circuit 465 (W/LB) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis for open circuit. RETEST system.
BC20 - Test Ignition Position
- Connect NGS to data link connector.
- Request ignition switch position PID IGN_LCM.
Does PID IGN_LCM read ignition OFF?
YES REPLACE lighting control module.
NO SERVICE circuits 29 (W/LB) Town Car or 640 (R/Y) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis for short to battery. RETEST system.
