Pinpoint Test A - Display Not Illuminated, Too Dim Or Blank But BacklightedA1 - Check Displays - Headlamps Off
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Turn headlamp switch to OFF.
- Verify illumination of electronic instrument cluster, clock and radio.
Is electronic cluster display off with other displays on?
YES GO to A2.
NO GO to A3.
A2 - Check Instrument Cluster Power
- Verify power at electronic instrument cluster pins C1-7 circuit 54 (LG/Y) C1-9 circuit 964 (DB/LG) C3-2 circuit 964 (DB/LG) with ignition switch in RUN position.
Is B+ present?
YES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar.
NO SERVICE circuits 964 (DB/LG) and 54 (LG/Y).
A3 - Check Displays - Headlamps On
- Turn ignition switch to RUN.
- Turn headlamp switch to PARK position.
- While varying dimming level check other displays: radio, clock, transmission range indicator.
Do other displays illuminate properly?
YES GO to A4.
NO GO to A5.
A4 - Check For Circuit 19 (LB/R) Voltage
- Turn headlamp switch to OFF position.
- Disconnect electronic instrument cluster connector.
- Turn headlamp switch to PARK position. on.
- While varying dimming level, check voltage in circuit 19 (LB/R) at connector pin C1-13 of electronic instrument cluster.
Does voltage vary between 4 and 15V?
ES REPLACE electronic instrument cluster. AFFIX odometer sticker to door pillar. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE circuit 19 (LB/R). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
A5 - Check For Lighting Control Module
- Check fuse junction panel fuses 8 (15A) and 18 (15A). Replace if necessary. Proceed if displays still do not illuminate properly.
- While varying dimming level, verify voltage output at lighting control module.
Does dimming input voltage vary between 4 and 15V?
YES SERVICE circuit 19 (LB/R). RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system.
