Mode 2 Procedure

NOTE: For the Mode 2 driving procedure, it is best to use a stopwatch for accurate timing of the drive cycle.

WARNING: Strict observance of posted speed limits and attention to driving conditions are mandatory when proceeding through the following drive cycle.

Mode 2:





NOTE: Observing the diagnostic monitors while performing this mode will verify when the mode is complete, as the monitors will clear. If Mode 2 is performed properly and the monitors do not clear, either Mode 1 was not successfully completed or a concern exists with the vehicle.

1. Key OFF.
2. Connect New Generation STAR (NGS) to the OBD II Data Link Connector (DLC).
3. Access the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Parameter Identification (PID).
4. Ensure that all accessories are OFF, including A/C.
5. Start the engine and stopwatch.
6. Idle the engine for 4 minutes, or drive the vehicle at any legal speed for approximately 4 minutes (no particular driving pattern is necessary).
7. With transmission in DRIVE (A/T) or 5th gear (M/T), accelerate the vehicle to approximately 88 kph (55 mph) and maintain that speed for 4 minutes.
8. At the 4 minute mark, drive the vehicle between 84-96 kph (52-60 mph) as indicated by the NGS VSS PID or 82-88 kph (51-55 mph) as indicated by the speedometer
9. After the stopwatch has passed the 5 minute mark, slow the vehicle to stop and let the vehicle idle in PARK (A/T) or NEUTRAL (M/T) for more than 1 minute. At this point the oxygen sensor heater system monitor and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system monitor should be cleared.
10. Turn the key OFF and proceed to Mode 3, if necessary. Mode 3 Procedure
