Engine Oil Pump - Assembly

ASSEMBLY





1. Apply clean engine oil to the outer rotor (2) and install with the chamfer toward the front cover.
2. Apply clean engine oil to the inner rotor (3) and install with the chamfer toward the crankshaft.
3. Assemble the pump using new parts as required.





4. Lubricate the oil pressure relief valve with clean engine oil.
5. Install the oil pressure relief valve (2).
6. Inspect the relief valve plug O-ring (3) and replace if necessary.
7. Tighten the relief valve plug to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).






CAUTION: Prime the oil pump before installation by filling the rotor cavity with engine oil. Failure to prime the oil pump could cause engine damage.

8. Install the pump rotors with the chamfer side to the inside of chain case cover.
9. Position the oil pump cover and install the retainers hand tight.
10. Using the sequence shown, tighten the oil pump cover retainers to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.).
