Instrument Panel - Removal






REMOVAL

WARNING: Follow all Warnings for airbag component service Service Precautions . Failure to follow these instructions may cause possible serious or fatal injury.

WARNING: When an undeployed airbag module is to be removed from the steering wheel, first disconnect the battery ground cable and isolate it. Allow the system capacitor to discharge for a minimum of two minutes, then begin the airbag removal.






NOTE: Left side shown. Right side similar.

1. Remove access panel and disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Using Trim Stick C-4755 or equivalent, remove the left and right scuff plate (1).
3. Remove the screw and two push pin fasteners (3).
4. Remove the cowl trim panel.





5. Remove the steering column opening cover Steering Column Opening Cover - Removal.
6. Remove the cluster bezel Instrument Cluster Bezel - Removal.

CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate once the column is removed. If the wheel is rotated it could damage the clock spring within the steering column.

7. Remove screws to upper and lower steering column shrouds (4 and 8).





8. Disconnect five steering column electrical connectors (1, 2, 3, 4, and 6).
9. Loosen steering column pinch bolt.
10. Remove four steering column retaining nuts and remove the steering column (5) from vehicle.






CAUTION: Do not remove or adjust the brake lamp switch. If the switch is removed readjusted, it must be replaced with a new one.

11. Disconnect the wire harness lead (4) from the brake lamp switch (3).
12. Disconnect the pedal servo electrical connector.





13. Disconnect left side instrument panel electrical connectors (1) and remove the bolt (4) and ground wire (1).





14. Remove nuts (1) and ground strap (1) at left floor tunnel.





15. Remove the bolt and nut that secures the left brace (1).





16. Remove the left and right side instrument panel retaining bolts (1 and 3).
17. Reach up underneath the instrument panel (2) and disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector.





18. Disconnect the three right side electrical connectors (1) and remove the bolt (3) and ground wire (2).






NOTE: Right side shown. Left side similar.

19. Using Trim Stick C-4755 or equivalent, gently pry off the right and left side A-pillar trim (3) and remove trim from vehicle.
20. Disconnect electrical connector at left A-pillar.
21. Remove four screws and disconnect electrical connectors to radio and remove from vehicle.
22. Disconnect the occupant restraint controller ground wires.
23. Disconnect the two occupant restraint controller electrical connectors





24. Using Trim Stick C-4755 or equivalent, gently pry up on left and right instrument panel speaker grille and remove grille from vehicle.
25. Remove the wiper module Wiper Arm Linkage - Removal.
26. Remove the four screws that secure the HVAC exterior intake plenum and remove plenum from vehicle.
27. Remove the ten nuts that secure the instrument panel studs (5) to the engine compartment side of the dash panel (1).

NOTE: Use care not to scratch or damage interior trim and decorative surfaces of the instrument panel while removing the instrument panel.

28. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove instrument panel from inside the vehicle and place it on a workbench.
