Timing Chain & Sprockets - Installation

INSTALLATION

CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET INSTALLATION

1. Position a new crankshaft sprocket on the crankshaft with timing mark facing out. Align crankshaft keyway with slot in crankshaft sprocket.

NOTE: Lubricate the threads of crankshaft sprocket installer 9055A (1) using Mopar(R) Nickel Anti-seize Compound or equivalent, before beginning crankshaft sprocket installation.

2. Install the crankshaft sprocket with crankshaft sprocket installer 9055A (1). Seat the sprocket against the crankshaft flange.

TIMING CHAIN AND CAMSHAFT SPROCKET/PHASER INSTALLATION

1. Rotate the crankshaft sprocket so the timing mark (4) is at the 12 O'clock position.
2. Place the timing chain around the camshaft sprocket/phaser and place the timing mark (4) to the 6 O'clock position.

NOTE: When installing the camshaft sprocket/phaser onto the camshaft, make sure the camshaft alignment dowel is correctly inserted in the sprocket/phaser assembly.

3. Place the timing chain around crankshaft sprocket and install the camshaft sprocket/phaser into position.

4. Using straight edge (4), check alignment of timing marks (2,3).

5. Install camshaft sprocket/phaser retaining bolt (1) and tighten to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.).

6. Install camshaft phaser drive adapter (1) and rotate counter clockwise so the slot is in the 12 O'clock position.

7. Verify that the slot is in the 12 O'clock position (1).

8. Rotate crankshaft 2 revolutions. Timing marks (2,3) should line up. If timing marks do not line up, remove camshaft sprocket/phaser and realign.

CAUTION: Install camshaft drive plate outer bolts (2) prior to installing camshaft drive plate center bolt (3) or possible engine damage could result.

9. Install camshaft drive plate (1) in position.
10. Install camshaft drive plate retaining bolts (2).
11. Install camshaft drive plate center bolt (3).

12. Tighten camshaft drive plate outer bolts to 12 Nm (106 in. lbs.) as shown.

NOTE: It may be necessary to place a block of wood between the crankshaft counter weight and the block when tighten drive plate bolt.

13. Tighten camshaft drive plate center bolt (1) to 65 Nm (48 ft.lbs.).
14. Install timing chain cover Engine Timing Cover(s) - Installation.
