Cylinder Head - Removal






REMOVAL

NOTE: Care must be taken to protect the intake manifold and cylinder head covers powder coating from scrapes and abrasions. This procedure covers either the left or right cylinder head.





1. Release the fuel pressure Service and Repair.
2. Open trunk lid. Remove battery cover. Disconnect negative battery cable (1).





3. Remove the air cleaner housing (1) Air Cleaner Body - Removal.
4. Drain the cooling system Service and Repair.
5. Raise and support the vehicle Service and Repair.





6. Remove the V-band clamp (1) from the exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold connection and discard.

NOTE: Do not reuse V-Band clamp.

7. Lower the vehicle.





8. Remove air inlet hoses (1) from throttle bodies.





9. Remove intake manifold Intake Manifold - Removal.





10. Remove fuel rail (2).
11. Remove the cylinder head covers Cylinder Head Cover(s) - Removal.
12. Remove exhaust manifold(s) and gasket(s) Exhaust Manifold - Removal.






NOTE: If rocker arms and push rods are to be reused, identify each component to ensure installation in original locations.

NOTE: When removing the rocker arms do not remove the bolt from the rocker arm, this maintains proper rocker arm trunion alignment.

13. Remove the rocker arm assemblies (3).
14. Remove push rods (2).





15. Remove the head bolts 1 - 12 and discard. Remove bolts 13 - 20 from the cylinder head(s).





16. Remove cylinder head(s) (6) and gasket(s) (1).
17. Remove cylinder head gasket(s) (1) and discard.
