TC-17A Idle Adaptive Memory at Lean or Rich Limit

TEST TC-17A REPAIRING - RIGHT OR LEFT IDLE ADAPTIVE MEM AT LEAN OR RICH LIMIT

NOTE: Perform TEST TC-I]1A Before Proceeding. TC-1A CODE TO TC TEST CHART (Checking For Trouble Codes)

These trouble codes can be caused by several things not related to powertrain control module electronics.

The idle adaptive memory is designed to aid in fuel/air control. Its function is to adapt the fuel/air mixture to correct for fuel pressure differences and other mechanical changes such as engine wear and mechanical malfunctions.

Effects of Trouble Codes on System
The fuel control system goes to open loop mode when the oxygen sensor has indicated a continuous lean or rich mixture of exhaust gas.

Definition of Trouble Codes
Idle Adaptive Memory at Lean Limit: Engine running rich; powertrain control module trying to adapt fuel/air mixture lean.

Idle Adaptive Memory at Rich Limit: Engine running lean; powertrain control module trying to adapt fuel/air mixture rich.

Possible Causes
- Excessive Engine Wear
- Incorrect Fuel Pressure
- Mechanical Malfunctions
