Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (L18)
Removal Procedure
1. Pull the plastic cap back along the pipe in order to remove the plastic cap from the connector fitting.
2. Use a small, pick-type tool or screwdriver in order to release one of the open ends of the retaining clip from the connector fitting.
3. Rotate the retaining clip out of position on the connector fitting and remove the clip.
4. Discard the retaining clip.
5. Remove the oil cooler inlet and outlet hose clamp bolt.
6. Remove the inlet and outlet hoses from the clamp.
7. Pull outward on the oil cooler lines to remove them from the oil cooler fittings.
8. Remove the inlet and outlet pipes from the retainer.
9. Pull outward on the oil cooler pipes to remove them from the engine block fittings.
Installation Procedure
1. Using your thumb and forefinger, insert a new retaining clip into one of the three connector fitting recesses. Ensure that the retaining clip engages all three slots in the connector fittings. Failure to properly install the retaining clip could cause the cooler line to come loose and cause damage to the engine.
2. With one end of the retaining clip engaged in the connector fitting slot, use your thumb to rotate the clip around the connector fittings, until the clip snaps into place.
3. Do not install the new retaining clip onto the fitting by pushing down the clip.
4. Ensure that the three retaining clip ears are seen from inside the fitting and that the clip moves freely in the fitting slots.
5. Install NEW retaining clips into the remaining quick connect fittings, if necessary.
6. Install the oil cooler lines to the engine block fittings.
7. Insert the cooler line end into the quick connect fitting until a click is either heard or felt.
8. DO NOT use the plastic cap on the cooler line in order to install the cooler line into the fitting.
9. Pull back sharply on the cooler line in order to ensure that the cooler line is fastened into the quick connect fitting.
10. Position and snap the plastic cap onto the fitting. Do not manually depress the retaining ring when installing the plastic cap onto the quick connect fitting.
11. Ensure that the plastic cap is fully seated against the fitting.
12. Ensure that no gap is present between the cap and the fitting.
13. Ensure that the yellow identification band on the tube is hidden within the quick connect fitting. A hidden yellow identification band indicates proper joint seating.
14. Do not install the cooler line end into the fitting incorrectly.
15. If you cannot position the plastic cap against the fitting, remove the retaining clip from the quick connect fitting per Step 3 of the cooler line removal procedure. Inspect the retaining clip and the tube end in order to ensure neither is bent. Replace the cooler line or the retaining clip if necessary, and reinstall per Step 2 of the cooler line installation procedure.
16. Install the cooler line into the quick connect fitting again in order to install the remaining cooler lines into the remaining quick connect fittings.
17. Install the inlet and outlet pipes to the retainer.
18. Install the oil cooler inlet and outlet hoses to the radiator.
19. Install the inlet and outlet hoses to the clamp.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
20. Install the oil cooler inlet and outlet hose clamp bolt.
Tighten the oil cooler inlet and outlet hose clamp bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
21. Check the coolant level. Add coolant if required.
