Tandem Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Block the wheels.
2. Support the propeller shaft.
3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
4. Remove the four bolts from rear axle front unit yoke (3).




5. Remove the four bolts from rear axle rear unit yoke.



Remove the propeller shaft.

Installation Procedure

1. Install NEW universal joints propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement Service and Repair.
2. Support the propeller in the installed position.
3. Install propeller shaft.




4. Install the four bolts to rear axle front unit yoke.




5. Install the four bolts to rear axle rear unit yoke.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

6. Tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications Fastener Tightening Specifications.
7. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing. Refer to Driveline Angle Adjustment Adjustments.
8. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations [1][2]Fluid Type Specifications.
9. Remove the wheel blocks.
