Shift Cable Replacement (Floor Shift)

Removal Procedure

1. Engage the park brake.
2. Make sure the ignition is in the OFF position.




3. Remove the clips securing the shift cable to the transmission.
4. Remove the cotter pin and the clevis pin securing the clevis to the transmission shift lever.
5. Remove the floor mounted range selector. Refer to Range Selector Replacement (Floor Mounted) Range Selector Replacement (Floor Mounted)Range Selector Replacement (Console) Range Selector Replacement (Console)Range Selector Replacement (Push Button Console) Range Selector Replacement (Push Button Console).




6. Remove the nut securing the trunnion to the shift cable.




7. Remove the grommet through the floor panel.
8. Remove the shift cable through the floor panel.
9. Remove the shift cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the shift cable to the vehicle.




2. Install the end of the shift cable with the threaded stud through the floor panel.
3. Install the grommet on the shift cable to the floor panel.





Important: Avoid binding of the shift cable. Do not use pliers or crimping tools in order to hold the shift cable when tightening the trunnion nut.


4. Install the nut in order to secure the trunnion to the shift cable.
5. Install the floor mounted range selector. Refer to Range Selector Replacement (Floor Mounted) Range Selector Replacement (Floor Mounted)Range Selector Replacement (Console) Range Selector Replacement (Console)Range Selector Replacement (Push Button Console) Range Selector Replacement (Push Button Console).




6. Install the cotter pin and the clevis pin in order to secure the clevis to the transmission shift lever.
7. Install the clips in order to secure the shift cable to the transmission.
8. Start the engine.
9. Test the shift operation of the transmission.
