Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure

The power steering fluid cooler pipe is used on some of the vehicles. The cooler pipe is a curved aluminum pipe. The pipe is held in place with clamps. The cooler pipe is located behind the grille panel, in front of the radiator.

1. Tilt the hood open.
2. Use a container in order to catch the draining fluid.





Important: Cap the hose and the cooler parts in order to prevent dirt from entering the system.


3. Remove the cooler hoses (3, 4).
4. Remove the following components:




1. The cooler pipe clamp bolt (3)
2. The washer (2)
3. The clamp retaining nut (1)

5. Remove the following components:




1. The cooler pipe clamp bolt (4)
2. The washer (1)





Important: Cap the cooler pipe ends in order to prevent dirt from entering the system.


6. Remove the cooler pipe (6).
7. Remove the cooler pipe mounting clamps from the pipe.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the cooler pipe mounting clamps on the pipe.
2. Install the cooler pipe (6).
3. Install the following components:
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.





1. The bolt (3)
2. The washer (4)
3. The nut (1)

Tighten the cooler pipe clamp bolt to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).




4. Install the following components:

1. The bolt (4) into the retaining nut
2. The washer (1)

Tighten the cooler pipe clamp bolt to 13 Nm (115 lb in).

5. Install the cooler hoses (3, 4).

Tighten the components to the following specifications:

* The cooler hose connection to the steering gear to 28 Nm (21 lb ft)
* The cooler hose connections to the cooler pipe to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in)

6. Bleed the system. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

* Power Steering System Bleeding (Remote Reservoir)
* Power Steering System Bleeding (Integral Reservoir)
