Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
Refer to the Caterpillar(R) 3126 Unit Repair Manual for information on replacement of the diesel engine water pumps.
1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.
2. Remove the front left wheelhouse cover. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement Service and Repair in Body Front End.
3. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement Fan Replacement.
4. Remove the drive belts.
5. Remove the drive pulleys.
6. Loosen the engine coolant air bleed hose clamps.
7. Remove the engine coolant air bleed hose and clamps.
8. Loosen the thermostat bypass hose clamps (2).
9. Remove the thermostat bypass hose (1) and clamps (2).
10. Disconnect the lower radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement.
11. Remove the water pump bolts (3).
12. Remove the water pump (1).
13. Remove the water pump gaskets (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install water pump gaskets (2).
2. Install the water pump (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the water pump bolts (3).
Tighten the water pump bolts to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
4. Connect the lower radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement
5. Install the thermostat bypass hose (1) and clamps (2).
6. Install the engine coolant air bleed hose and clamps.
Tighten the clamp to 5 Nm (44 lb in).
7. Install the drive pulleys.
8. Install the drive belts.
9. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement Fan Replacement.
10. Install the front left wheelhouse cover. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement Service and Repair in Body Front End.
11. Fill the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling Cooling System Draining and Filling.
