Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Remover





1. Remove the upper fan shroud from the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement (Upper) in Cooling System.
2. Remove drive belt from the drive pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
3. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands.
4. Remove the lower fan shroud from the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement (Lower) in Cooling System.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft balancer.





6. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and washer from the crankshaft.





7. Use the J 23523-F to remove the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft.
8. Remove the from the crankshaft balancer from the crankshaft.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 23523-F Crankshaft Balancer Remover

1. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil the crankshaft balancer.
2. Lightly tap the crankshaft balancer into the crankshaft.





3. Use the J23523-F to install the crankshaft balancer on to the crankshaft.





IMPORTANT: When installing the crankshaft balancer bolt and washer, make sure take the curved part of the washer is pointed away from the engine.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt and washer to the crankshaft.
^ Tighten the bolt to 270 Nm (200 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft balancer.
6. Install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the lower tan shroud to the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement (Lower) in Cooling System.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the drive belt on the drive pulleys. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
10. Install the upper fan shroud to the radiator. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement (Upper) in Cooling System.
