Push Rod: Service and Repair

Rocker Arms And Pushrods:




REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Valve cover. Refer to Valve Cover / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
2. Rocker arm nut (6).
^ If only the pushrod is to be replaced, back the rocker arm nut off until the rocker arm can be moved away from the pushrod. Then pull the pushrod out.
3. Rocker arm (7) with ball (8).
4. Pushrod (9).

CAUTION All reusable components must be stored in such a manner, that they can be reassembled in the same location that they were used in before.

INSPECT
1. Rocker arms and balls at their mating surfaces. These surfaces need to be smooth and free from scoring and other damage.
2. Rocker arm areas that contact the valve stems and the sockets which contact the push rods. These areas should be smooth and free of damage and wear.
3. Pushrods for bending.
^ Roll the pushrod on a flat surface to determine if the rod is bent.
^ Replace if necessary.
4. Ends of the push rods for scoring or roughness.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Pushrod.
^ Make sure the pushrod seats properly in the hydraulic lifter.
2. Rocker arm with ball.

CAUTION When installing new rocker arms and/or balls, coat the bearing surfaces with "Molykote" or equivalent.

3. Rocker arm nuts.
Adjust
^ Valves. Refer to Valve, Intake/ Exhaust / Service and Repair. Adjustments
4. Valve cover. Refer to Valve Cover / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
