Parking Brake Actuator: Service and Repair
Parking Brake Actuator Replacement (J55)
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning (Brake Dust Warning).
Removal Procedure
1. Release the park brake.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
4. Pull down on the park brake cable near the park brake connector (1).
5. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (2) from the rear equalizer (1).
6. Disconnect the right rear park brake cable (5) from the intermediate park brake cable (3).
7. Remove the rear park brake cable from the park brake actuator lever.
8. Remove the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J55) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J55))Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9)).
9. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the actuator lever from the backing plate.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the actuator lever to the backing plate.
2. Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (J55) (Adjustments).
4. Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J55) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J55))Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9) (Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JL9)).
5. Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever.
6. Connect the left rear park brake cable (2) to the rear equalizer (1).
7. Connect the right rear park brake cable (5) to the intermediate park brake cable (3).
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the safety stands.
10. Lower vehicle.
