Front Brake Hose Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.
Note: Cap the brake pipe fitting to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
4. Remove the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose.
5. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the brake hose retainer from the brake hose.
6. Remove the brake hose from the brake hose bracket.
7. Remove the brake hose bolt from the brake caliper.
8. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
9. Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.
10. Plug the inlet port of the brake caliper to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
11. Remove the hose bracket bolt from the strut assembly and remove the hose.
Installation Procedure
1. Remove the plug from the brake caliper inlet port, if necessary.
Note: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
2. Assemble the brake hose bolt and the NEW copper brake hose gaskets to the brake hose.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt.
* For vehicles equipped with RPO JL9, tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
* For vehicles equipped with RPO J55 tighten the bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
Caution: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.
4. Install the brake hose to the brake hose bracket.
5. Install the brake hose retainer to the brake hose.
6. Remove the cap from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
7. Install the brake pipe fitting to the brake hose and tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb ft).
8. Install the hose bracket and bolt to the strut assembly and tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
9. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair).
10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
11. Lower the vehicle.
