Drive Pinion Assemble

Special Tools
* DT-48007 Spline Holder
* J 42170 Getrag Axle Bearing Race Installer
* J 42172 Getrag Axle Bearing Race Installer




1. Using the J 42170 (1), the DT-48007 (2), and a hydraulic press, install the bearing onto the pinion shaft.




2. Assemble the pinion shaft (119), spacer (29), and bearing (31) into the housing/cage (4).




3. Using the J 42170 (1), the DT-48007 (2), and a hydraulic press, install the bearing onto the pinion shaft.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Using a torque wrench, the J 42172 (1), and the DT-48007 (2), install the nut onto the pinion shaft and tighten to 500 Nm (370 lb ft).
5. Using a punch, stake the areas of the nut into the notches in the end of the pinion shaft.
6. Using the DT-48007 , measure the rotating torque of the pinion shaft. A properly assembled pinion shaft and bearings should have a rotating torque of 1.4-2.8 Nm (12-25 lb in).
