DTC 50

Diagnostic Trouble Code 50:

PCM Ignition Feed Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
CKT 539 is the ignition feed to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on terminals "B30" and "D3." The PCM monitors the voltage at terminal "D3." When voltage on "D3" drops below 8.0 volts, DTC 50 will set and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will be illuminated.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 50 WILL SET WHEN
The engine is running and the PCM senses a voltage of less than 8.0 volts on PCM terminal "D3."

ACTION TAKEN (PCM DEFAULT)
A High idle, and 3rd gear starts. The MIL will illuminate.

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Normal battery output is between 9.6 and 16.0 volts.

2. Checks to see if the low voltage reading is due to the generator. With engine running, check voltage at the battery.

3. Checks to see if generator is Faulty under load condition. If the voltage is below 8.0 volts, refer to Starting and Charging/Charging System

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An open circuit, or extremely low voltage (below 5.5 volts) to "D3" may cause loss of serial data and the MIL may not function. Additional DTCs may be set. An Open circuit to "B30" will cause a no start and the MIL will not illuminate.
