Strut Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Use only the recommended tools for separating the ball joint from the knuckle. Do NOT hammer or pry the ball joint from the knuckle. Failure to use the recommended tools may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.

1. Remove the strut-to-body mount nuts.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the stabilizer shaft link from the strut. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Rear Suspension).




5. Scribe the strut to the knuckle.





Caution: The knuckle must be retained after the strut-to-knuckle bolts have been removed. Failure to observe this may cause ball joint and/or wheel drive shaft damage.

6. Remove the strut to knuckle bolts.
7. Remove the strut from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Use only the recommended tools for separating the ball joint from the knuckle. Do NOT hammer or pry the ball joint from the knuckle. Failure to use the recommended tools may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.




1. Install the strut into place.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the strut to knuckle bolts and tighten to 120 Nm (89 lb ft).
3. Connect the stabilizer shaft link to the strut. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Rear Suspension).
4. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




5. Install strut to body mount nuts and tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Adjust the rear wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications (Specifications).
