Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove engine hood. Mark hood for installation reference.
3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
4. Drain coolant and engine oil.
5. Remove radiator and heater hoses.
6. Disconnect battery ground cable from engine.
7. Disconnect engine harness at bulkhead connector.
8. Remove serpentine drive belt.
9. Remove power steering pump from engine and position aside.
10. Remove air flow duct.
11. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage mounting bracket, and other applicable cables.
12. Disconnect the following wiring harness. connectors:
a. MAT sensor.
b. Throttle position sensor.
c. Idle air control valve.
d. Oxygen sensor.
e. A/C compressor.
f. Oil pressure switch.
g. Power steering cutout switch.
h. Vehicle speed sensor.
i. Low oil level sensor.
13. Disconnect ignition coil ground strap from fender inner panel attaching screws.
14. Disconnect fuel feed and return lines from fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator.
15. Disconnect emission control canister hoses from throttle body connections.
16. Disconnect brake booster and heater control hoses from engine vacuum connections.
17. Disconnect vacuum hoses from cruise control and servo assembly.
18. Raise and support vehicle.
19. Remove exhaust pipe from righthand side exhaust manifold.
20. Remove A/C compressor and position aside.
21. Remove right front engine to transaxle bracket. Remove flywheel cover, then the starter motor as described under Starting and Charging/Starting System/Starter Motor/Service and Repair.
22. Remove flywheel to torque converter bolts. Scribe marks on the flywheel and torque converter for reassembly reference.
23. Lower vehicle.
24. Attach suitable lifting device to engine lifting brackets
25. Raise engine slightly and remove torque axis engine mount.
26. Support transaxle, then remove engine to transaxle bolts.
27. Separate engine from transaxle, then remove engine from vehicle.
28. Reverse procedure to install.
