Engine: Service and Repair

1. Mark and remove hood assembly.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove air cleaner assembly.
4. Relieve fuel system pressure as described under Fuel Pressure Relief. Under Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/System Diagnosis/Procedures/Diagnostic Charts/A Charts/Chart A-7 Fuel System Diagnosis.
5. Remove fuel lines from rail and mounting bracket.
6. Remove coolant bottle and inner fender electrical cover.
7. Remove fuel injector sight cover.
8. Remove throttle cables, bracket and vacuum line from throttle body.
9. Remove heat shield from exhaust crossover pipe then crossover pipe.
10. Remove engine torque strut from engine.
11. Remove engine cooling fan.
12. Remove vacuum line from transaxle module.
13. Remove serpentine drive belt.
14. Remove power steering pump and alternator from engine.
15. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors.
16. Remove upper and lower radiator and heater hoses from engine.
17. Remove transaxle to engine bolts and ground wire harness with bolt.
18. Raise and support vehicle.
19. Remove right tire and wheel assembly and inner splash shield.
20. Remove flywheel cover and scribe torque converter to flywheel for installation.
21. Remove flywheel to converter bolts.
22. Disconnect wire harness clamps from frame near radiator.
23. Remove A/C compressor and position aside.
24. Remove starter motor.
25. Remove transaxle to engine bolt through wheelwell using suitable extension.
26. Disconnect engine mount to frame nuts.
27. Remove oil filter.
28. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from manifold.
29. Disconnect oil cooler piper from hose connections.
30. Lower vehicle.
31. Install lifting device and remove engine assembly.
32. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align engine with transaxle dowel pins.
b. Torque torque strut bolts to 41 ft. lbs.
c. Torque flywheel to converter bolts to 46 ft. lbs.
