Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Tube (VW 423)

Pulling Hook (T20143)

Removing

Proceed as follows:

- Remove selector lever cable for selector shaft lever. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Service and Repair.





- Remove nut - arrow -.





- Carefully pry selector shaft lever - A - from selector shaft.

- Pry out shaft seal with pulling hook (T20143/1).





Installing

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Flange Shafts and Shaft Seals Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Lightly oil outer circumference of new shaft seal.

- Fill space between sealing and dust lips - arrow - halfway with sealing grease; sealing grease. Refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA.





- Drive in shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.





Closed side of seal - arrow - faces toward outside.

- Position selector shaft lever on selector shaft and tighten - arrow -.





Lever of selector shaft installs onto splines only in one position.

- Install selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Service and Repair.





- Adjust selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
