Rear A/C Unit Expansion Valve To Evaporator Refrigerant Lines, Replacement
Rear A/C Unit Expansion Valve To Evaporator Refrigerant Lines, Replacement
• To remove the evaporator and the rear A/C unit, these refrigerant lines are not removed => [ Rear Heating and A/C Unit ] Rear Heating and A/C Unit
Removing
- Switch off the ignition.
- Drain the refrigerant circuit.
- Remove the left aerodynamic underbody trim.
- Detach cross bar - A -, exhaust system - C -, driveshaft - D -, and heat shield - B - from the vehicle and remove..
• To remove heat shield - B - in the center tunnel, the exhaust system with the center muffler and the driveshaft must additionally be removed depending on the vehicle.
- Remove the refrigerant lines from the rear expansion valve, refer to => [ Rear Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting ] Rear Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting.
- Remove the rear expansion valve, refer to => [ Rear Expansion Valve ] Rear Expansion Valve.
- Detach bracket - A - for refrigerant lines - D - and - E - from the vehicle.
- Remove hexagon nut - B -.
- Carefully detach bracket - C - from the vehicle.
• Bracket - C - is bonded with double-sided adhesive strip - F - in area - G - to the floor plate of the center tunnel. As a result of this bonding, bracket - C - remains in its position when the rear A/C unit is removed and the heat shield of the center tunnel does not need to be removed to install the rear A/C unit.
- Remove refrigerant lines - D - and - E - from the connection of refrigerant pipes - A - to the evaporator in the rear A/C unit.
• The connection of refrigerant pipes - A - to the evaporator in the rear A/C unit is installed in the passenger compartment.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:
- Clean the floor plate of the center tunnel in area - G -.
• Bracket - C - is bonded with double-sided adhesive strip - F - in area - G - to the floor plate of the center tunnel. As a result of this bonding, bracket - C - remains in its position when the rear A/C unit is removed, and the heat shield of the center tunnel does not need to be removed to install the rear A/C unit if the rear A/C unit needs to be removed once.
• Bracket - C - is available as a replacement part with the adhesive strip already installed. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.
- Clean refrigerant line connections on the connection of refrigeration pipes - A - to the evaporator in the rear A/C unit and on refrigerant lines - D - and - E - and check for damage.
- Replace O-ring seals - B - and - C -; refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.
- Coat O-ring seals - B - and - C - lightly with refrigerant oil prior to installation, refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-rings.
- Ensure that O-ring seals - B - and - C - are properly seated on the connections of refrigerant lines - D - and - E - to the evaporator.
- Install refrigerant lines - D - and - E - in the connections of evaporator pipes - A -.
- Install bracket - C - for refrigerant lines - D - and - E - and adhere to the floor plate of the center tunnel.
- Install and tighten hexagon nut - B -.
• Tightening specification of hexagon nut - B - with a thread "M8": 10 Nm.
- Remove the rear expansion valve, refer to => [ Rear Expansion Valve ] Rear Expansion Valve.
- Install the refrigerant lines to the rear expansion valve, refer to => [ Rear Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting ] Rear Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting.
- Check the routing of the refrigerant lines after attachment. They must be inserted in the provided brackets in a tension-free manner and must not come in contact with other components.
- Evacuate and fill the refrigerant circuit.
- Install the remaining removed components.
- Check the event memory of the Climatronic control module (J255) , and erase any displayed malfunctions using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to => [ A/C System Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit.
• Note the information regarding operation of the A/C system after filling.
• Check the function of the A/C system using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
