Left Engine Mount

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)

Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)

Engine Support Supplement Set (T40093) with (T40093/7) , (T40093/8)

Removing

- Position the front wheels so they are straight.


Risk of destroying electrical components.

Complete the steps for disconnecting the battery.

- Disconnect the ground (GND) cable - 2 - from the battery pole.






- Remove the engine cover - arrows -.






- Remove the left and right air filter housing.

- Mount the (10 - 222 A) with (T40091/3) , (T40091/4) , (T40091/5) , (T40093/7) and (T40093/8) on the left and right suspension strut towers as illustrated.






- Install (T40091/1) , (T40093/3) , (T40093/3-4) and (T40093/4) as illustrated.






- Install (T40091/2) and (T40093/5) with spindles (10 - 222 A /11) as illustrated.






- Attach the spindles to the engine lifting eye and pretension the engine slightly.

- Remove the noise insulation - 1 - and - 2 -..






- Remove the left and right front wheel housing liners..






- Remove the let and right drive axle from the transmission flange shaft.

- Loosen the clamp - 2 - and remove the muffler - 1 - for the auxiliary heater.






- Remove the bolts - 1 - and push the deflector plate forward - arrow -.






- Remove the air intake grille - 1 - from the bumper cover - arrow -.






- Release the latch - arrow - and open the cover - 4 -.






- Disconnect the wires - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove the bolt - 3 -.

- Push the terminal 30 wire junction 2 (TV22) upward and disengage it on the lock carrier.

- Free up the wires.

- Free up the hose - 3 - and the wires - 4 -.






- Remove the bolts - 1, 2 and 5 - and remove the right rear longitudinal member.

- Free up the coolant hose - 1 -.






- Remove the bolts - 2 - and remove the deflector plate forward - arrows -.

- Remove the bolts - 1, 2 and 3 - and the left lower longitudinal member.






- Disconnect the left and right connector - arrow - from the left front level control system sensor (G78) / right front level control sensor (G289) and free up the wire.






- Remove the left and right stabilizer bar bolt - 1 -.






Ignore - 2 and 3 -.

- Remove the left and right bolts - 3 -.






Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the power steering hydraulic line bolt - arrow -.






- Remove the left and right bolts - arrows - from the transmission mount.







The airbag spiral spring could be damaged.

Separate universal joint from steering gear only when front wheels are in straight ahead position.

Do not change steering wheel position and steering gear position any more, secure steering wheel with adhesive tape.

- Remove universal joint bolt - arrow -.






- Remove universal joint from steering gear.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Remove electrical connectors from bracket and disconnect:






1. For the left electrohydraulic engine mount solenoid valve (N144)

2. For the Servotronic solenoid valve (N119)


- Remove the bolts - 1 and 3 - and - arrows -.






The retaining plate - 2 - for the left engine mount remains in its installed position.

- Disconnect the connectors - 2 - and free them up.






- Remove the right engine mount bolt - 1 -.

- Support the subframes using (V.A.G 1383 A) as shown in the illustration.






- Mark the location of the subframe to the longitudinal members using a felt-tip pen.






- Remove the left and right subframe bolts - 1,2,3 - in a diagonal sequence.


Suspension components could be damaged.

Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

- Lower the subframe using the (V.A.G 1383 A) just enough so that the left engine mount can be removed, while at the same time paying attention to the clearance for the left hydraulic oil hoses and the right electrical cables.

- Remove the left engine mount.

Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe Mount Overview ] Subframe Mount Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Replace bolts which have been tightened to an additional torque.

During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

- Align the subframe and using the marks made on longitudinal members during removal.

- Tighten the subframe bolts only to the tightening specifications, do not tighten them further (tighten the bolts only after axle alignment).


Risk of accident due to loose connections.

If the bolts in the subframe are not tightened to final torque, vehicle must not be driven.

- Install the subframe crossbrace and the stabilizer bar.

- Install the transmission mount brace.

- Install the universal joint on the steering gear.

- Install the power steering fluid line.

- Install the auxiliary heater muffler.

- Tighten the drive axles on the transmission flange shafts.

- Install ATF lines.

- Install the wires and the terminal 30 wire junction 2 (TV22).

- Follow the instructions for connecting the battery.

- Install air filter housing.

- Install the wheel housing liners..

- Perform an axle alignment.


Risk of accident due to loose connections.

Tighten the subframe bolts to the specification after performing axle alignment.

- Install the noise insulation..
