ATF, Draining and Filling

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262 A)

Adapter, Jointed Hose (VAS 6262/5)

Draining

The transmission should be at operating temperature to properly drain the ATF. Do not start the engine when there is either very little or no ATF in the transmission.

The engine is off.

Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.

Transmission is in "P".

The parking brake button should be activated to close the electromechanical parking brake.

- Remove the rear noise insulation - 2 -..






- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective goggles.

- Remove the ATF drain plug - arrow B - and drain the ATF.






There is a risk of damaging the transmission.

Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transmission.

Follow the disposal requirements.

Replace the ATF drain plug and seal.

Replace the plug for the ATF check and fill hole.

- Tighten the new drain plug - arrow B -.

Filling the ATF

There is a risk of damaging the transmission.

Only use the ATF available as a replacement part for the automatic transmission 0BK.

Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.

For the correct allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog.

The ATF filler adapter must be clean. Do not mix the ATF any other fluids.

- Secure the ATF container and the (VAS 6262 A) on the vehicle as high as possible; for the correct ATF specification, refer to the Parts Catalog.

For Vehicles with 12-Cylinder Engine Only

For vehicles with a 12-cylinder engine, the space between the exhaust system and the sealing plug - A - for ATF-check and the fill opening is very small. A different locking bolt with an outer hex head was installed for the ATF check and fill opening.






Danger of getting burned.

Wear safety gloves.

- If necessary, use compressed air as an added means of cooling off both the right front exhaust pipes that are near the locking bolt for ATF control and the fill opening, and carefully check the temperature in the front exhaust pipes.

- Place rags near the ATF-check and fill opening on top of both right front exhaust pipes that have cooled off.

All Vehicles

- Tighten the new plug - arrow A -.






- Install the (VAS 6262/5) into the ATF check and fill hole - arrow -.






For vehicles with 12-cylinder engine only: Install the (VAS 6262/5) on top of both front exhaust gas pipes in the ATF-check and fill opening - arrow -.

- Fill the ATF using the adapter until the ATF starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

- Move the selector lever to "P".

- Start the engine, wait 20 seconds and then turn it off.

- Fill the ATF again until it starts to leak out of the hole.

- Start the engine.

For Vehicles with 12-Cylinder Engine Only

Danger of getting burned.

Wear safety gloves.

- If necessary, use compressed air as an added means of cooling off both right front exhaust pipes that are near the locking bolt for ATF control and the fill opening during the fill process.

All Vehicles

- Fill the ATF again using the adapter until the ATF starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

- Tighten the old plug for the ATF check and fill hole.

- Press the brake pedal and shift through all the gears "P", "R", "N", "D/S" with the engine running at idle. The selector lever must stay in each gear for 3 second.

- Move the selector lever to "P".

- Check the ATF level and correct if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
