Bearing C for Disc Set I
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust Ring (VW 429)
• Drift (10 - 206)
• Valve Seal Removal Tool (3364)
• Hot Air Blower (V.A.G 1416)
• Thrust Piece (T40145)
• Bracket, commercially available, for example KUKKO 22-1
• Internal puller, commercially available, for example SCHREM 20 through 29.5
Removing
- Remove the chain and disc set I. Refer to => [ Chain and Disc Set I ] Chain and Disc Set I.
- Remove the suction jet pump. Refer to => [ Suction Jet Pump ] Suction Jet Pump.
• The suction jet pump must be removed, so that it does not get damaged as the transmission housing warms up.
- Remove the circlip - arrow -.
- Mount the (3364) on the oil pipe, as illustrated.
- If necessary, carefully tap the oil pipe with a plastic hammer.
• The claws on the (3364) will not close completely.
- Carefully pull the oil pipe and (3364) upward.
- Mount the internal puller, commercially available, for example SCHREM 20 through 29.5 - 1 - on the bearing C and tighten.
Danger of getting burned!
• Always wear protective gloves.
- Warm the transmission housing all around bearing C for disc set I using the (V.A.G 1416) to approximately 180 °C (356 °F).
- Mount the (VW 429) centrally onto the transmission housing around the bearing C for disc set I.
- Tighten the bracket, commercially available, for example KUKKO 22-1 - 2 - on the internal puller, commercially available, SCHREM 20 through 29.5 - 1 - and support it against the (VW 429).
- Cool the bearing C for disc set I with, for example, cooling spray.
- Remove the bearing C for disc set I bracket, commercially available KUKKO 22-1 straight out of the transmission housing.
Installing
Check the bearing C for wear. Refer to => [ Chain, Disc Set I and II, Bearing C and Suction Jet Pump, Checking for Wear ] Chain, Disc Set I and II, Bearing C and Suction Jet Pump, Checking for Wear.
- Install the bearing C for disc set I with (T40145) carefully all the way in - arrow -.
• Installation position: the inscribed, smooth and even side faces upward toward the thrust piece.
- Install the circlip - arrow -
- Carefully install the oil pipe all the way using the (10 - 206) - arrow -.
• The oil pipe collar must touch the transmission housing all the way around.
- Install the suction jet pump. Refer to => [ Suction Jet Pump ] Suction Jet Pump.
- Install the chain and disc set I. Refer to => [ Chain and Disc Set I ] Chain and Disc Set I.
