Bearing A in Input Shaft Cover

Input shaft cover removed. Refer to => [ Input Shaft Cover ] Input Shaft Cover.

Assembly Overview





1. Circlip, measure and always replace

2. Always replace bearing A (input shaft ball bearing)

3. Input shaft cover

Removing

- Remove circlip - A -.





- Measure and note thickness of removed circlip.

When installing, circlip must be replaced with a new circlip of same thickness.

- Lay input shaft cover - 1 - on (T40099) and place under hydraulic press.





- Remove the bearing A (transmission input shaft ball bearing) using the tube 37 mm dia. (VW 416 B) from the input shaft cover.

In some cases, the bearing A (input shaft ball bearing) can be pressed out by hand with having to use the hydraulic press.

Ball bearing must be replaced.

Installing


Check the input shaft cover => [ Check the Input Shaft Cover ] Input Shaft, Checking for Wear.

- If the sealing surface or the cover are damaged, then replace the input shaft cover.





When a new input shaft cover is installed, and new bearing A (input shaft ball bearing) must also be installed.

- If the sealing surface and the cover are not damaged, then replace bearing A - 2 - (input shaft ball bearing).





- Clean ball bearing seat in cover.


Note the position of the bearing A - 2 - transmission input shaft ball bearing): The ball bearing cage must face downward into the cover; the open side of the ball bearing must face upward, that is, the balls in the bearing must be visible when installed.

- Install ball bearing flush and press in by hand as far as possible.

- Lay input shaft cover on thrust plate (VW 401).





- Press onto stop with sleeve (2010).

- When installing, circlip - A - must be replaced with a new circlip of same thickness.





- Check for correct circlip seating, push ball bearing in or use next thinnest circlip, if necessary.
